Digger Day

East Leake’s year 9 BTEC Engineering students were given the opportunity to have a digger day at CR Civils Yard in Ripley. The day involved having a full site safety inspection, including: general health & safety awareness, fire regulations and Abrasive Wheels training.

Under strict supervision, the students were given a chance to have a go on a digger and view all of the different types of plant machinery used within the Construction industry.

They were also presented with an Abrasive Wheels certificate to show the training they performed.

The purpose of the day was to benefit & promote the construction industry to the younger generation by giving the students a real-life experience day in construction.

The feedback given from the day was very positive, from both the students and the teachers; a thank you card was also given to CR Civils from the school.

After the positive response from the students, CR Civils are already liaising with another school to offer the same opportunity for other potential construction workers, making them aware of the different sectors of construction.

CR Civils adhered to their appearance on the site by ensuring the yard was in a clean condition for their students to use. They also gave the students a tour of their own recycling facility that crushes, screens & recycles waste, teaching them the importance of correctly disposing waste to protect the environment as well as ensuring the safety of the students by providing them with full PPE, a health & safety awareness course and Abrasive Wheels training
