This contractor and the construction industry as a whole have identified overhead power line or overhead structure strikes and over-turning vehicles as potential hazards on construction projects.

With overhead power lines running across an area of the initial archaeological works, the project team looked at ways of eliminating and reducing the hazard.

Working with their plant supplier, the CAT-730C2-EJ was selected for use on the project because of its unique safety features and versatility. The CAT-730C2-EJ is an articulated truck that uses a blade to eject or push its load.

The ejection design allows it to offload without the requirement for the body to be raised. This feature allows it to work safely in areas which would otherwise be unsafe for a traditional all-terrain dump truck (ADT), such as in the vicinity of overhead power cables and in tunnelling and underground operations.

As the body is not required to be raised, the centre of gravity is considerably lower and thus is inherently more stable. This increase in stability, allows load dispersal on inclines, side slopes and in very soft ground conditions.
