Eco site supports Eco community project

Westleigh have recently completed Europe’s largest eco friendly development in Leicester, constructing new affordable homes to and exceeding passivhaus standards. The “Saffron lane neighbourhood council” purchased the derelict site from the council for a nominal sum to create this eco friendly project.

The benefits of such developments are lower carbon output and better use of heating and cooling, reducing gas and electricity usage. Westleigh where the perfect developer for this, using sustainable construction methods and materials.

This CCS registered site not only regenerated the area to eco standards but then undertook the task of assisting the community project neighbours in constructing an eco garden, eco visitor centre and parking.

Our commitment as Considerate Constructors saw us jump at the opportunity to assist. Assistant site manager Mark Keen explained that spare materials were donated saving the CO2 cost to the environment of moving them through haulage and also reducing the waste taken from site, bricks, blocks, aggregates and wood where all donated, utility ducting was also installed for future use.

The idea was to donate the safety panels used during the construction process to prevent falls in the stair openings of new plots, these cannot be reused and were donated to provide the planters for the project.
