The project team worked collaboratively with the client to discuss ways to generate carbon reductions within the build. Through engaging with their supply chain partner, they decided to review the use of electric arc furnace steel for the steel frame. This uses recycled steel to be reused into the new structure.
The steel frame is made up of 98.6% of recycled steel from the electric arc furnace, and only 1.4% of blast furnace steel.
By working with their supply chain partners closely, not only did this result in a saving of 108 tonnes of carbon dioxide, it was also carried out at a zero cost change to the contractor and the client.
