Encouraging cycle safety

Cycling is an environmentally friendly mode of transport, which should be encouraged amongst the workforce.

However, with an increasing number of cyclists on the roads, accidents and near misses are also on the rise.

A number of sites have raised awareness of this by doing the following:

  • Created a cycle safety awareness film with the help of a cycle training company;
  • The video shows a lorry driver and a cyclist swapping roles to experience the challenges each other faces;
  • An event was held on the car parks of the site, whereby suppliers and subcontractors brought their commercial vehicles for inspection and identification of potential cyclist blind spots;
  • A cyclist safety campaign was set up in conjunction with Traffic for Greater Manchester.
