Encouraging cycle safety awareness

Cycling is an environmentally friendly mode of transport, which should be encouraged amongst the workforce.

However, with an increasing number of cyclists on the roads, accidents and near misses are also on the rise.

Awareness of construction-related, cycle safety could be raised through engagement with operatives, the supply chain, local community, schools and cycling groups.

Examples of how sites have encouraged awareness include:

  • ‘Awareness of cyclists’ training was implemented for all operatives;
  • Cycle safety posters were promoted on the hoardings;
  • Open days were held for cyclists, to allow them to liaise with the construction industry and gain a better understanding of the challenges and problems both parties face.
