In addition to the construction of Spring Lane Teaching Building, GRAHAM Construction have been tasked with providing an environmentally ecological District heating system to bring University of York’s current system up to the expected target specification.

The task was further handicapped by the beautiful planted area through which this pipeline had to navigate.

GRAHAM Construction employed the services of renowned Arboriculturalist Consultant Jo Ryan. With Jo herself adopting a leading role due to her love of the University of York’s mature trees.

The team in collaboration with their professional advisor proceeded to form tree protection zones, then protected the actual ground surrounding the plantation from compression which would starve the roots of nutrition and oxygen.

The workforce and management were educated in the correct methodology required to complete the excavation and backfill of the pipeline in an ecological manner, the works have progressed without concern and all precautions have been met.

These actions by GRAHAM Construction have resulted in a highly trained workforce who are ecologically aware of their environment and take the utmost pride in what they have achieved.
