Most excess concrete is disposed of in standard waste skips, lined with plastic sheeting. This contractor has developed vessels for collecting concrete that are tailor made for this and will not require using plastic sheeting, which is a waste product in itself.
The vessels are also designed to prevent overfilling, which is an industry issue that affects the collection of the material. By limiting the volume in each vessel, they prevent overfilling and the need to breakup and remove the overfilled concrete from the skips.
By collecting excess concrete waste in tailored vessels, it is kept ‘pure’ and free from other contaminants. The quality of material they are building is now being seen by the industry and gives increased confidence in using recycled aggregates in concrete. The current material typically used in recycled aggregate can contain up to 5% of contaminants, which can affect the quality and strength of concrete produced.
Ready-mix companies have told this organisation repeatedly that the recycled aggregate their process and vessels facilitate are encouraging them to offer concrete with recycled aggregates to their clients more.
