This contractor has installed facade mounted solar panels to supply their temporary site office and reduce the emissions associated with the electricity consumption.
Installing solar panels to supply constructions sites has been done before, however, it is incredibly tricky for fit-out projects with limited access to external space to coordinate this.
A significant proportion of emissions associated with construction works come from site utility consumption. The impact of this is gaining more traction with embodied carbon assessments and the Net Zero Carbon Building Standard, so reducing these emissions is becoming increasingly important.
The benefit of this to the wider industry is that it demonstrates the installation of solar panels for site electricity is possible for fit-out projects when there is no external space to utilise.
