When using RPE (Respiratory Protective Equipment), all workers most ensure that the equipment is fitted correctly so the seal is not broken. Facial hair breaks the seal between the face and the fitted mask, which renders the protection ineffective.
At our flagship site, Ergon House, Westminster, the site managers brief all site staff on RPE safety through a toolbox talk.
All site workers must refer to the facial hair chart before carrying out any works where RPE is required.
The facial hair chart provided by the Wooldridge Demolition team allows workers to see what sort of facial hair is deemed appropriate and safe for work. Exceptions are made if facial hair is grown for religious reasons, if so, alternative facial protection is offered.
