In their efforts to reduce carbon on the project this contractor has researched various methods of bridge building and materials used.
This has seen them now working with Janson Bridges to create a Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) bridge as the solution on the Tyn-y-Bryn project.
Traditionally bridge construction consists of large amounts of concrete and steel which creates a large output of carbon to construct on site. The FRP bridge is manufactured in a factory, transported to site as a whole and installed in one day.
This is the first time the local authority has used this particular method for their public footbridges, therefore going forward this could be a idea to replicate on other projects and help the local authority meet their carbon reducing targets.
