Flatrack system reducing city centre congestion

Laing O’Rourke Edinburgh St James site is using a ‘Flatrack’ loading system, making use of our site cranes.

Materials are loaded onto racks off-site and then delivered on lorries to loading bays around the site; materials are then lifted into the site and placed where they are needed.

There has been a significant reduction in deliveries and vehicle movements in the area as a result.

This system is commonly used in ports, but it is believed that it is the first time that it has been used on a construction site.
