Provision of Parking Facilities for Workers at Nearby Coronavirus Testing Facility

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, a new testing laboratory was established in an adjacent building to the project site offices.

With the UK Government’s advice at the time being to avoid public transport, additional safe, nearby parking was required for those testing facility workers who are unable to walk or cycle to work, to enhance the existing limited car parking provision onsite.

In response to this challenge the project reassigned a portion of the project car parking to give approximately 100 car capacity for staff working at the testing facility. A new 100m by 2.4m tarmac footpath was installed (in record time), together with two gates in the hoardings, to enable access between the car park and the testing facility.

This example of best practice is just one way that projects can work to tackle the virus and reduce the spread. For full guidance and the latest Government advice read the Construction Leadership Council’s Site Operating Procedures.
