Free Replacement Bus Service

Due to significant erosion to the embankments of the River Ely, the footbridge needed to be replaced.

The footbridge provides an essential link for the local community from key residential areas to the town’s shops including the local GP surgery and pharmacy. With the footpath closed, it is a significant diversion for the community to take to reach the opposite side of the river by foot especially for those with limited mobility.

After discussions with the client, until the new footbridge is installed later this year, a free shuttle bus service is in place to take residents from one side of the river to the other. The bus service maintains the vital link for the community to access the GP surgery, pharmacy and shops.

Without the free bus service, the local community would be at a severe disadvantage in accessing key local services by foot. The bus runs from 8am to 6.20pm, Monday to Friday (except bank holidays) and picks up and drops off at several key locations within the community.

The community are very pleased with the free replacement bus service and how it has kept them connected and able to continue their usual routines with minimal disruption.
