Fuel Tournament – Idling Time Reduction

This project is part of the Fuel Tournament that started in July 2021. This initiatives purpose is to reduce fuel consumption through reducing idling time. At this stage, the tournament includes drives of excavators above 8 Tonne. In the next stage machines below 8 Tonne and other machine types will be reviewed.

To enable the tournament, a detailed fuel efficiency report was undertaken which shows total fuel bought, volumes used and how efficiently it has been used in the project.

To inspire their drivers to commit to the cause, the drivers who improves their driver style the most will be awarded £50 and a t-shirt for the first two months. Following this, prizes will be awarded differently and reviews will be made.

Previous trials within the company has proven the concept with £65k worth of fuel saved within the haulage department and they expect to achieve significant improvement over the following months by reducing idling.
