Gebrick Wall for CITB National Construction College

Our management trainees on the project, Callum and Thomas, seized an opportunity to produce a mock up training external wall for the CITB National Construction College in Bircham Newton.

Once they had a design in mind, they approached a Digital Engineer to bring it to life. The design was to have two panels attached together by hinges, the left side would show reveals of each layer of the build-up and would be constructed correctly without any defects. The right hand side of the wall was designed with a whole host of defects built into it, with some easier to spot than others. The team wanted it to look defect free from face value, but once you started to peel back the layers various defects would present themselves, which is why they designed pull out boxes all over the wall.

They approached and organised meetings with supply chain partners where they agreed upon a design, dimensions, programme and the defects they wanted to be built into the panels. The wall was constructed onsite and transported as part of this project.

On completion, Callum followed the panel up to Bircham Newton, where he handed over the wall and accompanying presentation to the CITB National Construction College, ready to be used by the new trainees attending their trade awareness course this year. The presentation was designed to allow for CITB’s own input so that they could add anything to cover for their courses. The representatives from CITB were incredibly grateful for the work they had done and were impressed by their presentation.
