Geospacial Web Mapping Tool

The Geospacial web mapping tool is being used on this project to provide several benefits.

Environmental and other features are loaded into the mapping tool in a series of layers (any feature can be uploaded).

This included bat restrictions, other protected species and woodland and environmentally sensitive areas. However community high risk areas could also be loaded where, perhaps, additional noise and dust controls are required.

This web map is a single source of all data so there is a consistent factually correct basis for the different layers. The operational teams use the web map to produce their environmental risk assessments.

By drawing a polygon of the work area all the restrictions immediately show graphically and also in table format. This ensures that they are all taken into account in the risk assessments and that all necessary permits are obtained.

As the system is accessible remotely any inspector on site can easily check that the restrictions have been taken into account. This system has great possibilities beyond environmental applications and has already been presented to others within the rail industry.
