An idea that a CAN Site Manager came up with when working on other projects was a spring loaded pallet lifter to try and reduce manual handling for operatives when working with our grout plants. In principle, it was a pretty simple but very effective piece of kit that was manufactured for the Scarborough project.
When a 1.5 ton pallet of cement was placed on the platform of a pallet lifter, the springs compressed to lower the top bags of cement to waist height for the operative.
As the operative removed the bags (weight), the platform slowly raised up so that the top bags of cement were always at waist height. This significantly reduces bending, twisting and lifting from low down.
The platform also had built in rollers so it could be swivelled 360 degrees to also make the operation quicker, safer and also easier for the operative.
