Guidance to Improve Road Safety Awareness

Road Haulage Association (RHA) and the Berkeley Group have joined together to create a Guidance document to ensure safe deliveries to and from construction sites.

The guidance provides details on how to prevent accidents associated with deliveries and collections to and from site,  and is supported by a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) approved training course.

Road safety remains a big issue as although construction only accounts for about 5% of employment, it accounts for 27% of fatal injuries to employees with 39 fatalities in 2011/12.

Ensuring that near misses are reported and lessons learnt is a huge factor for accident reduction and raising awareness.

RHA & Berkeley Group hope that this guidance will help to improve understanding about the roles and responsibilities of sites and drivers.

This also forms part of the Berkeley Group’s £2 million Innovation Fund, which is designed to reduce construction related risk, improve the working environment and develop people’s understanding of safe working practices.
