Happy Growing

Happy Growing is an eco-friendly “grow-your-own” kit. Understanding the concept of harvest-to-home, is essential to the environment and to sustainability in the future. Happy Growing is part of a wider campaign to be developed at Castle Park View and beyond, to assist families who live with no access to gardens. The hope is that they can experience and develop an understanding of what it is like to grow and cultivate delicious wholesome nutritious herbs that can be used in everyday cooking.

This initiative has developed since the initial engagements with the school in late 2019. Starting with foodbank donations over the Christmas period in 2019, they developed a direct relationship between the school staff and an appointed representative on site.

Happy Growing gives an understanding of how plants, given nurture, grow from seed. They are like people, needing three necessary nutrients to keep them alive and to develop. Plants need Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium. People need Protein, Carbohydrates and Fat, but the principles are the same. Look after the plant or the person, and they will thrive.

Happy Growing will help the students make the connection between the food they grow, the food they eat and the development of our bodies and our brains.
