Helpful Hints for the Code of Considerate Practice – Community

Being registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) means we need to demonstrate our commitment to the Code.

The CCS Code of Considerate Practice is effectively communicated to our workforce through a sheet of helpful hints covering all five sections of the code.

Through reading this document our workforce understands the importance of the Code and how it should be applied.

Here are some of the helpful hints we suggest to comply with the ‘Respect the Community’ section of the code:

  • Ensure neighbours are kept informed about the project and you have a record of letters sent;
  • Ensure progress newsletters are displayed and sent to local residents;
  • Make provision for visitor site access;
  • Display a traffic plan on the office wall;
  • Include the need for site cleanliness and organisation during inductions;
  • Follow the complaints procedure and record how quickly complaints are acted on;
  • Schedule delivery times to miss important times around the site area, e.g. pick up and drop off around schools;
  • Display the out of hours number for emergencies;
  • Record any complimentary letter or conversation with a neighbour, to share with the workforce and show the visiting Monitor;
  • Ensure that the community is aware that there is an open door policy for locals and residents, to discuss the project and raise any concerns;
  • Ensure that the Considerate Constructors Scheme is explained to all operatives at induction.
