Home Start Host Volunteer

The contractor’s Public Liaison Officer has joined Home Start as a volunteer. The local community network of over 13,500 trained volunteers support families with young children through these challenging times.

Volunteers work alongside parents, initially over Zoom, to help them cope with the stresses and strains of life, and support them to have the skills, confidence and strength they need to nurture their children.

The people being helped could be struggling with any of the following:

  • Financial difficulties (debt, employment problems or redundancy)
  • Parenting issues (young parent, single parent, several young children or multiple births)
  • Illness (physical or mental) or disability (parent, child or relative)
  • Relationship difficulties (bereavement, breakdown, acrimonious legal disputes or domestic abuse)
  • Discrimination or prejudice (harassment)
  • Isolation (rural isolation, social isolation or loneliness)
  • Addictions (drink, drugs or gambling)
  • Mental Health difficulties (Anxiety, depression etc)
  • Housing problems (overcrowded accommodation, unfit housing conditions or temporary accommodation)
