Hybrid Excavators

J. Murphy and Sons Ltd has developed Hybrid 360 Degree Excavators. The excavators use an all electric swing motor generator system to capture and regenerate energy as the machine is operated, the energy is then converted and stored.

Stored energy can be used for the machine swing or to assist the acceleration of the engine. This decreases diesel usage and can reduce engine emissions by up to 30%. The after treatment installed with also be reduce NOx emissions by 80%.

Additional benefits include:

  • Low nose levels
  • A high resolution monitor for increased safety
  • Intuitive on-board diagnostics
  • Heated high back air suspension seat for comfort and support.

This site is the first to trial the machine, with results so successful that an order for 35 Hybrid Excavators have now been placed.
