Improved dust control using backpack vacuum cleaners

Control of dust arising from concrete surfaces, plasterboard and the like is becoming an increasingly critical issue on construction projects for health and safety, quality and environmental reasons.

Using traditional vacuum cleaners with trailing cables presents a safety risk from trailing cables and is impractical to reach certain parts of some construction projects.

Mace have trialled the use of backpack mounted cleaners which is better for your back than a pull along or upright vac. The reasons for the back pack over the others are that if fitted, worn and used correctly they reduce shoulder and back injuries. The other type can cause more injuries to the arm they are pushed with, shoulder and back injuries and the manual handling requirements are generally higher.

Controlling dust is also important to protect the fabric building elements included on the project. We found the backpack mounted cleaners enabled us to more easily and more safely access all areas of the construction project.
