Installation of an Accessible Ramp at Local Primary School

During the sunny Easter break, a team from the Paddington New Yard project set to work to install a much needed accessible ramp at St Mary Magdalene’s primary school in Paddington.

The school had been using a temporary ramp, constructed by a scaffolding company some months ago, to allow prams and wheelchairs to access the upper level playground to a lower level nursery area.

The ramp was identified as an issue, during some volunteering that the Paddington New Yard team carried out at the school last year, and quickly offered to return and install a safe and permanent ramp.

Two teams from Costain and Kelly Formwork donated £688 in materials and spent 75 hours throughout the week installing shuttering, concreting and finishing to give the school much needed access.

Andrew Dyer, School Site Manager said:

“Can we send a big thank you for all your time and effort in this project. It was refreshing to work with a very professional bunch of people who took our small but very important project seriously. The pride they took in the job, and the attitude with which they carried it out, all shows with the finished ramp. This has made a huge difference to the whole school community, and we hope to work with you again in the future.”
