Internal Dust Monitoring

Where external air quality is actively managed on construction sites, Lendlease recognises that internal air quality, specifically while working in enclosed apartments, is often overlooked. Lendlease have responded by implementing practices to minimise or eliminate dust generation in work activities. Practices such as automatic collection of dust at source and ‘ban the broom’ policies are implemented on site, however there is no data available to measure if these  practices are successful at reducing dust levels. To actively measure the internal dust level, Lendlease, at the Elephant Park project, have been working closely with EMS to develop a dust monitoring system that allows continuous monitoring of an area over a 90 day period.

The key benefit of the internal dust monitoring will allow:

  • Confirmation of methodology compliance from trades working in the monitored areas
  • Confirmation that the policies being implemented are effective at reducing dust levels
  • Identification of equipment/filter failure (dust extraction or vacuums etc.)
  • Proof of compliance with CoSHH dust standards
  • Data presented in a portal that is available in near real time
  • Alerts set for warning when levels are exceeded
  • The dust units can measure the size of dust particles, which can highlight the volume of breathable dusts in the atmosphere
