The Multiplex team at 80 Charlotte Street have been regularly visiting the Fitzrovia Community Nursery, which is right next door to the site, to ensure we are doing everything we can to be considerate constructors and minimise any disruption to their day to day activities.
Multiplex visited the nursery in March alongside the Considerate Constructors Scheme mascot, Ivor Goodsite, and talked to the children about the equipment they can see on the site, why construction sites are dangerous and why Ivor Goodsite wears PPE. The children loved playing ‘Hunt the Hazard’ and also decorated pictures of construction equipment which will be used to brighten up the site gates opposite the nursery.
Later in the month we revisited the nursery and took with us two planters, a selection of bulbs and some compost, all kindly donated by our subcontractors. We then spent a fun filled couple of hours putting the soil into the planters and showing the children how to plant and care for the bulbs once they grow. One planter was left with the nursery so they can watch the flowers grow and the other has been placed, pride of place, at the site entrance to welcome everyone to the project.
Mimi, the manager from Fitzrovia Community Nursery commenting on the visit said:
“The children really enjoyed meeting with Ivor and they were talking about it all day and still are! It was very nice of you to do the planting/growing project with the children, they loved it and are still watering the plants every day.”
