Joint Open Doors Site Visits

Open Doors offers members of the public a unique chance to go behind the scenes of live construction sites, offices, factories and training centres across Great Britain. The event helps the public discover how the communities they live in are shaped and constructed by an industry with a diverse range of career paths to offer. Open Doors helps inspire the public and explain how they can start a career in construction.

Having three projects in close proximity to each other in the Kings Cross area, BAM used the Open Doors event as an opportunity to show visitors all three sites – S1, Q Zone and T Zone. The attendees were from a mixed background and included the local community, college students and teachers, people interested in learning more about the area, reporters and people interested in a change of career.

The sites were able to show a range of construction techniques being used, including form work, jump form construction, excavation and slab construction. The three projects explained their unique differences, which range from working alongside live High Speed trains, above live tunnels and those which required neighbour liaisons. The event included progress so far, planning ahead, safety aspects and career history.
