Language Differences: ensuring all members of staff are respected and valued

Constructors should devise methods that best ensure all members of the workforce are included and valued.

Below is an example of how this was achieved:

  • As part of the Stepping Up fortnight, a multi-cultural event was held, this involved forming teams of operatives, each featuring the broadest possible cultural diversity, to answer site related questions set in a variety of languages;
  • The clear message from this exercise was that everybody relies on each other to get the job done and that every member of the team, no matter what nationality or background, is vital to the team effort;
  • As part of this event, multicultural food was provided and iPads were awarded to the winning team.

This activity ensured that all members of the workforce respect and value everybody’s contribution to the project.
