Liaising with a Local Training Provider

Lighthouse Safety Training is a local company based in Medway, Kent, offering a variety of safety courses.

Berkeley Homes have liaised with students studying the NEBOSH Construction Certificate. This link with Lighthouse Safety Training, has allowed their students periodic, structured access to the site to gain real time experience.

The students study specific subjects and legislation at the training centre and then visit our site on the same day to visualise the subject and gain a better understanding of actual events. They are accompanied in the first instance by the site safety advisor/manager and the training director of Lighthouse Safety at all times whilst on their visit to site.

Benefits include:

  • Students have the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the subjects they are studying;
  • Higher possibility of exam success, possibly leading to employment within the Industry;
  • A better understanding of what is required/expected of a health & safety advisor;
  • Students come from a varied background and often have specialist knowledge in specific areas; sometimes they share knowledge/experience with us;
  • A positive relationship with a local business and the community is created and maintained.

This new training idea is continuously being developed and may evolve over time to introduce more benefits to Victory Pier, Lighthouse Safety Training and their students. Regular contact with the training director will continue, to develop the idea to its full potential.
