Looking after the wellbeing of your workforce and considering the health of the local community

The health and wellbeing of your workforce should be a main priority.

Sites should be aware of the potential hazards posed to operatives and develop methods to appropriately minimise and offset these risks.

Healthy lifestyle advice could be made available, as well as emergency procedures understood and first aid facilities made easily accessible.

Below is an example of the various measures undertaken by a medium sized site to ensure the safety of their workforce:

  • An App was produced by the site manager to promote healthier lifestyles, which was distributed and utilised by others within the company;
  • A defibrillator was available on site with a great deal of publicity being given to its presence, to the local community;
  • The site also registered with the ambulance service to indicate that it had this equipment on site, as well as a qualified first aider who could use the equipment.
This innovation was achieved on a 42 week project for a housing development close to residential areas, busy main roads and schools, with the value of approximately £2.5M.
