Medical Support for Vulnerable Community Members
It is important to establish and maintain positive community relations.
Sites should actively seek to not only engage with the local community but to make a positive contribution where they can.
Below is an example of how sites can assist those living in the local community:
- The ‘Message in a Bottle’ initiative (working in conjunction with Age Concern) was adopted on site;
- When the resident liaison officer visited the tenants to carry out the initial survey, any vulnerable and elderly tenants living alone were identified and encouraged to keep a sealed plastic tube containing medical details, details of medication taken and other relevant information in the refrigerator;
- External signage indicating that the ‘Message in a Bottle’ was available were placed at entry light switches, fireplaces and other highly visible places to alert the emergency services to the availability of this information.
