Mental Health Awareness – sponsored abseil

In November 2015, Ballymore organised a sponsored abseil down one of the blocks on the London City Island development, near to Canning Town.

The fundraiser was to raise money for local charity MIND in Tower Hamlets and Newham to aid them in their continued support for the local community.

We also used this as an opportunity to create more awareness of mental health issues across site and to end the stigma surrounding the topic.

The abseil took place on Block H, giving a fair few site operatives the opportunity to try their hand at abseiling down 18 floors.

As well having the sponsored abseil which raised over £3500 for the charity, we also had representatives from MIND give talks and offer any advice in the site canteen throughout the day.

The Mocha MIND project (a small coffee van) was also readily on site offering coffees to the workforce and in turn promoting the messages.

The day was a great success, not only raising a large sum of money for the charity, but spreading the word on mental health awareness to the workforce.

Ballymore have also been keeping in contact with MIND to organise future fundraising events for a great cause.
