Mind Our Workers/ Darkness into Light

As many in the industry know, suicide on sites and at home has increased in the last few years.

As May is approaching, the Darkness into Light Campaign is encouraging people across the UK and Ireland to participate in a walk/ run to raise awareness of suicide and self harming.

This starts at 4.00am on Saturday 7th May in Cricklewood, North West London in the dark of the night as we walk into the light of the morning.

Pieta House supports and offers help to those struggling with their mental wellbeing when they are in a dark place and helps bring them back into a happy light where they are not alone.

110,000 participants took part last year and CJ O’Shea employees are taking part this year to help raise awareness of this amazing campaign.

The ‘Mind Our Workers’ campaign was started many years ago but has unfortunately faded into the past. We have tried to bring the importance of ‘On our sites, in our minds’ back onto CJ O’Shea sites.

Being an Irish Construction company when the recession hit Ireland between 2008 and 2012 there was over 500 suicides, most of which were males.

We have a number of nationalities working within CJ O’Shea and we want to ensure that the right support is provided if they have had or go on to develop suicidal thoughts.

Posters are displayed offering different ways our operatives are able to get the help and support they need.

We have maps and directions to the local wellbeing centres displayed across all our sites.

We also display the Samaritans helpline, HopeLine UK and Pieta House information.
