On this site a ‘mission room’ was implemented. This is a concept using monitoring and GPS recording of all tracks, access points and workplaces using a vehicle mounted camera. This is updated every week and gives operatives a clear understanding of the geography of both the workstation and the access tracks. This is used at site induction and particularly, during daily briefings.
Combined with the mission room are the safety and environmental hazards which are identified on the video screens. This system is highly accurate and effective as operatives have the opportunity to discuss and provide input into the control of these hazards. This does not replace the RAMS on site but does give excellent visualisation of the workplace. It is also particularly useful during periods of inclement weather as this can be included on the video screens.
The software is continuing to be developed and is being applied to all major engineering projects with the system being adapted for use in construction.
