Mobile Smoking Area

The image of the site portrays the image of construction.

On a large site such as Seymour Link road, with constantly changing working areas the main welfare areas are at either end of the job hence going for a cigarette break would take a significant amount of time out of the working day.

Therefore, the need for secondary smoking areas was established and a solution was sought:

  • Eurovia built mobile smoking stands with a bucket and fire extinguisher that could be moved along the job depending on where operatives are working.
  • The stands are covered in red and white tape to make them clearly visible:
  • Consideration was taken as to whether they should be more discrete however the area in the middle of the site where they would be used it is not visible to the public hence to make them more mobile this was not included:
  • This solution has proved popular with site personnel in reducing the amount of litter and has reduced time wasted walking to and from the smoking area.
