It was an informative and action packed day on 4th November, which saw pupils from five comprehensive schools in Llanelli take part in a Construction and the Built Environment World of Work Day at the Parc Y Scarlets, Llanelli.
Construction company Morganstone and Carmarthenshire County Council organised a World of Work Day which consisted of presentations and group tasks to introduce pupils to the world of construction and the many opportunities and roles available within the industry.
The pupils completed two tasks over the course of the day which encouraged team building, good communication and problem solving skills as they had to work in teams to complete a project within budget.
40 Year 10 pupils joined staff members from Morganstone and Carmarthenshire County Council. Careers Wales, Cyfle Building Skills and CITB Wales also supported the event to give pupils an understanding of the various routes into construction from Apprenticeships to Higher Education.
Antonia John, Community Engagement Manager for Morganstone, said:
“The day was a fantastic success with many pupils commenting that they were really enjoying the day and were very interested in pursuing construction as a career. During the event it was great to see the individual teams form partnerships and work as part of a team to undertake and complete the tasks. We look forward to seeing some of the pupils when they visit us for work experience.”
