Mace is working with Getjar and Walsh to implement the Fleetmatics Reveal app to monitor, call in and locate the muck away lorries carrying materials to and from the project. The app monitors whether a lorry is moving, paused or stopped on break through a traffic light colour coding system.
By using the app, Mace can ensure that we are minimising nuisance and emissions by minimising time that a lorry is sat stationary or idling. If a lorry is sat too long in one location then it will be able to be called off to another project. Sites can also correctly call in the right number of lorries and plan appropriately how many lorries they will be able to call upon, leading to better micromanagement and less wasted journeys/excessive distances covered.
The initiative has been implemented within the project team to promote the use of the app to correctly book lorries. We work with Getjar to give correct time slots and priority to the muck away operation, which helps us use the app to its full potential.
This has resulted in less lorries parked idling away from the project, therefore reducing both emissions produced and nuisance caused by their engine noises when sat awaiting entry to site.
