Near Miss Charity Donations

This contractor have developed an online incident reporting system that includes the reporting of near misses that are notified immediately as they are raised to the HSQE team and the application is made available to both their own staff and any subcontractor working on the projects.

Unfortunately it was recognised that the near misses being raised on the online system were on the decline and something needed to be done to improve the participation as the near misses raised are used to learn where things can be improved, to spot any trends or to assist others so it was important that they continued to be raised.

To help raise awareness and to give something back the company agreed to donate £5 for every near miss raised with a minimum contribution of £500 every six months. At the end of the six months the person who contributed best to the near miss scheme nominates which charity receives the monies. The best contributor is not necessarily the one who raised the most near misses but who may have taken additional action to prevent an accident or assisted someone in trouble.
