Neurodiversity Workshop

Neurodiversity is a subject that the Social Value Manager of this project is passionate about, and it turns out that so too were many of their operatives. They put together a workshop on the subject which debuted on our site before being rolled-out across the company nationwide. Topics covered included dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, and autism.

They discussed the law, company policy, what accommodations can be made to help neurodiverse colleagues in the workplace and reasons why neurodiverse people may be over-represented in the construction industry relative to the general population.

They ran two workshops on a single day to give all operatives on site the opportunity to take part. The sessions were extremely well received.

These sessions helped those on site to contextualise difficulties that many of them had previously experienced in school, the workplace and their personal lives. For non-neuro-diverse people it was also enlightening and they learnt about small changes that could be made that would not only be appreciated but potentially also improve the way things work on site and deliver benefits to all.
