New lasers to protect operatives

At Left Bank Development Tower, Wates Construction has developed a laser limit for use on Mast Climbers in lieu of the mechanical limiter generally used.

The lasers are positioned to read the dead space between the Mast Climber and the building. This prevents a sliding deck colliding with the building or anything protruding from the building. Once the line of sight is breached, the machine switches off.

The lasers were introduced as a replacement for the mechanical limiters. Limiters that were currently being used by all Mast Climbers are often unreliable and prone to damage and malfunction.

In comparison, the lasers introduced significantly reduce the frequency of breakdowns and prevent operatives from being stranded on the platform at high level.
