Noise Mitigation and Environmental Monitoring

The ‘Live Noise Screen’ has been facilitated through the development of intuitive algorithm data processing, and will mark a stepped improvement in holistic team orientated management of noise on site.

The concept of the Live Noise Screen:

Rather than monitoring data, Noise Screen displays only focused information in the context of trigger levels. At the start of each period, a ‘forecast’ is automatically generated using historic measurement data. As new monitoring data is collected throughout a period, the forecast is continuously adjusted  to give a ‘time-remaining’ – the duration of works (i.e. nose levels) can continue until the trigger is exceeded.

Various visual indicators update on the display to assist with the proactive management of construction activity in the context of noise restrictions. The Noise Screen can be displayed in site offices or on site to enable use of real time information to inform decision making on how to proceed with works.

Benefits of the Live Noise Screen:

  • Manage works more precisely to a target, reducing impact upon working operations.
  • Works managed at a glance. The screen is easily understood by those with limited acoustic knowledge (i.e. in cases where environmental professionals are not on hand – sensitive night time working times when triggers are more restrictive)
  • Intuitive data for non-acousticians but also contains more detail if viewed by an acoustician to enable ‘deeper analysis’ and more informed decision making, and reduces the need to download data and carry out manual analysis and forecasts.
