To ensure that the Asbestos removal contract could operate safely, ‘Breathe Easy’ kit training was organised on site, for all nine operatives.
As asbestos removal is a high risk activity it was essential that all staff were fully up to speed with the risks and how to safely deal with asbestos related work, before going to work in the enclosures.
This on site training was conducted to all of the asbestos operatives and supervisors, thus making sure everyone was clear on procedures and rescue situations (should they arise) before works started.
The course covers all aspects including theory, pre use checks, donning, after use, storage and cleaning; for all types of breathing apparatus including escape, self-contained, airline, fresh air hose, and re-breather chemical type. Training can be tailored to specific site procedures and cover typical work related scenarios such as spill response, basic fire behaviour, integration with gas tight suits and snatch rescue.
On-going competency of a breathing apparatus user is critical, with skill fade an unfamiliarity over time, regular drilling provides an antidote to this. Breathe Easy can assist clients with regular drilling for breathing apparatus users to ensure optimum performance is achieved at all times and to promote Breathing Apparatus team cohesion.
It is an essential part of our site culture and Wates ethos to ensure operatives have the competencies, skills and support to carry out their work correctly.
