Opportunities for Ex-Soldiers

Sites should seek to engage with members of the community who may be unemployed or considering a career in construction.

This may include opportunities for ex-servicemen and women, or wounded soldiers, who have varied skill sets and would be a valuable asset to the industry.

Training and employment for ex-soldiers could also have a positive impact on the local community, by providing potential new career options.

Below is an example of how sites have offered such opportunities, as part of the Help for Heroes initiative:

  • The contractor’s CEO agreed to partner in the re-education and employment of disadvantaged soldiers, as part of the Help for Heroes scheme, to help wounded soldiers return to work in the UK;
  • As a result, site scaffolding was redesigned to improve access, for amputees to be employed and trained in construction activities.
