During the site set up this contractor had to take into consideration that they could not set it up like any other site. The reason for this being that they are building a primary School and a boarding house within the premises of a live school for deaf children.

Therefore during the site set up they had to come up with ways to still allow the children to keep their access around the premises without putting them in danger by incoming vehicles to the site. They did so by implementing the following measures:

  • A one way system that has been enforced to reduce the direction of all construction traffic to the site.
  • They installed some yellow beacons which flash along the road side, which are triggered by incoming vehicles via PIRs. This method is used to alert the children of any incoming vehicles and allows them enough time to take necessary action. This is a secondary measure, the primary measure is all pedestrians have been directed away from routes used by site traffic.
