The site team had the challenge of finding a portable toilet unit that met site specific requirements for availability and manoeuvrability around site. At the time, the site needed an additional toilet immediately and this needed to be operational upon delivery, with other types of toilets requiring time and material to wire in or connect drainage for. This would also require a diesel generator, which would not support Mace’s efforts to achieve Net Zero Carbon targets.

Mace therefore provided solar powered toilets in order to meet the requirements for an expanding workforce before the main welfare setup was established. Each solar powered toilet unit comes fully equipped with flushing toilet, urinal, hot and cold water, hot air hand dryer and 12v LED lighting. With integral tanks and the absence of a generator, these cost effective solar loos have very low servicing costs in comparison as well as saving money on energy costs.

Benefits

  • Financial – £100 per week was saved compared to diesel alternatives. In comparison to similar sized toilet units, the hire and waste removal price are comparable to the diesel alternative, but with the added cost of a generator and fuel for the duration of the hire. The cost for the generator and fuel per week would be in the region of £80-£120 depending on the size and fuel consumption.
  • Time – It is quick to set up on site, as there is no need to wait for the temporary electrics contractor to provide a power supply. It is also easy to move around site.
  • Sustainability – It reduces reliance on fossil fuels on site, and silent plant is used, meaning there is no contribution to noise nuisance.
