Pink Wall in Canteen

Our Health & Safety team at Overbury have surveyed our workforce and identified that the male-dominated environment of construction sites can sometimes lead to poor decision making and refusing to take breaks due to tiredness.

We sought advice from a behavioural specialist who suggested that painting the canteen wall pink would challenge this mindset and reduce stress hormones (much like in prisons where walls are painted in certain colours for a calming effect).

On the first project this was implemented, we found that unsafe behaviours were reduced by 82% for working at height and 93% for material movements (these were the samples measured).
