Using modern and innovative equipment can improve sustainable procurement. It is therefore important to be aware what alternative working methods of equipment could be most effectively used for the job.

This doesn’t just mean productivity, but also other benefits such as environmental impact, health, safety and cost saving.

The example below shows how one site achieved this:

  • The contractor has developed a new plant and machinery database listing various items of energy efficient plant and eco-models compiled from plant, equipment and manufacturers catalogues;
  • The tool enables the user to filter specific categories of plant to facilitate sustainable procurement including energy and other environmental savings;
  • The tool includes health and safety benefits as well as cost savings associated with making greener purchasing decisions and the contractor has undertaken to share the information to all.
