Plated Setting Out Pins

The Leicester North West Phase Two project is a signalised junction improvement scheme in the centre of Leicester, which is congested with existing utility services in all corners of the junction. The project has decided to use plated setting out pins, rather than standard driven pins, to prevent any accidental utility strikes while setting out.

The site has had these steel pins manufactured with a flat steel plate bottom welded to them. The plates pins are placed onto the stone sub-base, and weighted down using blocks, rather than driving standard pins through the stone and existing ground, which could penetrate existing utility services. The plated pins are also easier to re-use that the standard driven pins.
