Point Cloud Laser Scanning in the Redline Process

The project team have implemented point cloud laser scanning into the red line process to capture the geometric data required.

A laser scanner set up on an adjustable tripod scans each room at high and low level to create a ‘point model’, the CAD team can use this to identify the locations of services within a room.

Benefits include:

  • No working at height to make red line drawings as the scan captures geometric data.
  • Reduced visits needed to handed over areas as the mode also takes HD photos which can be reviewed at a later date by anyone in the office should there be a query in the room.
  • No taking measurements adjacent to live services with traditional methods.
